Modern Stone Kitchen Extension, York

CG Building & Restoration Ltd delivered a high‑quality stone kitchen extension and new patio area at a private cottage on the outskirts of the City of York. The project enhances the home’s layout and connection to the garden while respecting the traditional character of the property.

The new single‑storey extension was constructed in stone to complement the existing cottage, with a lowered floor level to ensure the building sits discreetly within the landscape. Deep‑recessed glazing and a flat roof profile create a modern yet unobtrusive addition, while a stepped connecting corridor provides a smooth transition between the original house and the new kitchen space.

Internally, the kitchen was supplied and installed by Studio 35 of York, with CG Building & Restoration completing all structural works and installing polished concrete worktops — a contemporary feature that adds durability and visual impact. The combination of modern materials and traditional stonework creates a refined, timeless finish.

Externally, we constructed a new stone patio, forming a clean and functional terrace that links seamlessly with the extension’s glazed openings. This improves the usability of the immediate outdoor space without altering the wider garden.

Throughout the build, careful sequencing and full protection measures allowed the clients to remain in the property, ensuring safety, quality and minimal disruption.
