Church Roof Restoration & Conservation Works, Kirkbymoorside Methodist Church

CG Building & Restoration Ltd delivered a full programme of church roof restoration and heritage conservation works at Kirkbymoorside Methodist Church in North Yorkshire. Appointed to upgrade multiple roof structures across this important community building, we carried out a comprehensive scheme of slate roof replacement, fabric repairs and sensitive modernisation — all in line with best practice for listed building repairs and historic church conservation.

The project included full removal and reinstatement of the Chapel, Schoolroom and Jubilee Room roofs using a blend of original slates and carefully sourced reclaimed Welsh slate, ensuring an authentic match to the church’s historic roofscape. Detailed leadwork restoration was completed to valleys, flashings and junctions, supported by new GRP roof coverings to the Vestry and side entrance.

Structural timber repairs and new roof timbers were installed where required, strengthening the building while preserving its traditional appearance. External fabric upgrades included new painted Accoya fascia and soffit boards, replacement aluminium rainwater goods, and new aluminium louvre grilles. Timber windows were repaired and redecorated using conservation‑grade coatings, and new loft insulation was added to the Chapel to improve thermal performance.

The works were delivered in partnership with our trusted specialist roofing contractors, Ultimate Roofing of Bridlington, whose heritage roofing expertise and craftsmanship were instrumental in achieving the high standard required for this scheme. Their work was praised by PPIY Architects, who oversaw the conservation design.
