Extensions and Refurbishment to Stone‑Built Cottage, Helmsley, North Yorkshire

This project for a private client in Helmsley, North Yorkshire involved extensions and partial refurbishment to a traditional stone‑built end‑terrace cottage. The scheme combined modern construction detailing with the property’s existing character, creating additional living space and upgrading the home throughout.

A new two‑storey extension was constructed to provide a spacious master bedroom with ensuite. Built in stone to match the existing cottage, the extension features clay pantile roof coverings and rooflights, ensuring a seamless architectural connection with the original building.

Two further single‑storey extensions were added, one to the rear and one to the side, creating a new kitchen, utility room and hallway. These extensions incorporated oak roof timbers with zinc roof cladding, aluminium windows, oak doors and oak external cladding, delivering a contemporary yet sympathetic addition to the cottage.

CG Building & Restoration Ltd carried out a full internal refit, including new plumbing, heating and electrical installations. Internal reorganisation was completed for the kitchen and bathrooms, followed by full decorations throughout.

Externally, the gardens were re‑landscaped with new stone paving to the front and rear, along with new timber fencing to frame and enhance the outdoor spaces.
